Western Kentucky University offers an MS in chemistry. A Master’s degree requires the completion of 30 hours of coursework and a thesis of original research, which is conducted under the direction of a research advisory.

In general, students that score 290 or above on the GRE are competitive for a spot in MS in Chemistry program.  If you have a solid background in chemistry that could be a big plus.   Requirements for admission include the following in addition to WKU Graduate School admission requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or equivalent including supporting courses in mathematics (Exceptions to possessing a chemistry degree may be made for students with undergraduate degrees in chemistry-related areas (e.g. chemical engineering, pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, forensic chemistry). However, additional courses may be required and will be determined by the graduate program coordinator and/or the student’s thesis committee.)
  2. GPA in chemistry courses of 3.0 or greater (on 4.0 scale)
  3. GRE general scores (Q+V) and Analytical Writing. (Scores from MCAT, PCAT, or DAT may be substituted for equivalent GRE scores). There are no formal minimum GRE scores, however the average GRE scores of recently admitted students are approximately 145 (V) and 150 (Q).
